About me

My name is Liz. I’m a 31 year old born and raised city girl setting a personal challenge for myself.

Back in October 2018 my father passed away suddenly. He was a man who felt adventure intuitively and passed on a love for the outdoors that I took for granted my whole life. That is, until he was gone.

In honour of him, I’m dedicating the next several years to a project that I know he’d approve of; camping, portaging and exploring my way through Ontario’s provincial parks.

Here’s to hoping I’ll become an apt outdoors woman, a more experienced adventurer and a better person.

Wish me luck!

Topics

Park Info & Ratings!

I want to leave this personal challenge with more than some repetitive dirty shoe shots.
Our Provincial parks site in Ontario isn’t the best resource to put it lightly…

So I’ll be sharing as much helpful info about each park as possible!

Personal Experience!

A blog isn’t complete without some personal reflections and confessions.
Which I’m sure there’ll be plenty of.

Gear And More!

Do I know the difference between a tarpaulin tarp vs canvas tarp? Nope. Will I? I really hope so.
I’m expecting and anticipating this to be a continuous learning process and gear is an important part of that!

A Bit About My Inspiration

Twenty years ago my dad had his first heart attack. Twenty – it seems like a big number. But here we are. And it’s not big enough. That day twenty years ago, when we got to the hospital my dad was sitting up in bed, gauze taped across his forehead, a black eye, a split lip. But he was smiling at us.
John was strong. He was tough. And after that day, he spent the next eighteen years remembering what mattered most – what he loved and what made him him.

So he got up and he walked. He walked to get stronger. He walked to clear his mind. He walked to escape our nagging. He walked to get better. He walked to be better. And when he’d exhausted the ten-block radius of our neighbourhood, he went farther. The city shrank with every step he took.
He’d spend the rest of his life hiking, exploring and ringing out every moment of adventure that he could.

And now I will. Because his life is more than a memory.
