Project Provincial Update: Thwarted By A Pandemic

It’s been a slow start to the season…

April 25, 2021 would have been my first weekend out under the stars. And WHAT a weekend it would have been. With the projected (and very rare) potential for witnessing a farther south reaching aurora borealis, uncharacteristically warm days, and lots of sun, it would have been a great way to kick off the season.

Unfortunately, with Ontario under pandemic lock and key, closures forced me to rein in the plans. And then a few more after that too. Four sites saw their reservations come and go without much adieu. And that’s sad.

BUT

Things are about to get a whole lot more tent-y! As of TODAY, camping in Provincial parks is officially up and running again! And I head out this Sunday! There’s been a whole lot of reservation reorganization these past few months and I’m hopeful that the juggling and re-juggling is finally done. Despite losing out on four trips, I’ve managed to plan for 11 parks (9 car-camping and 2 back-country) between now and mid-September. If the year keeps speeding by like it’s been trending towards, I think this summer is going to FLY by and I’m determined to make the most out of it!

It feels surreal that this project is really about to be underway – and in what a way! I’m looking at spending 25 nights camping this season! That’s 25 nights of breaking in my new gear, putting my old gear to the test, experimenting with new camp meals, putting my core to work in my kayak and convincing my dog camping is fun.

*Deep breath*

And it begins.
